Spread the love

Mosiah 2:17

17. And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

It’s now November and the Holidays are coming up.

Service during the Holidays

The holidays are something special. I feel closer to the spirit and witness many miracles around the season.

I also feel my heart grow. I feel very blessed for everything I have and think of how much more I can give through service and friendship.

My husband and I have done what we can each year to serve around Thanksgiving or Christmas. We love to serve our neighbors and community in anyway we can.

I feel more in touch with the season when I am giving. I know that Jesus Christ desires us to serve and give.

It’s extra special around the holidays because all that Christ has given us with Him being born and dying for us.

Serve in anyway you can

As a family this evening we talked about service.

I asked what we could do as a family that would help someone in our community to show love or give in anyway we can.

I felt truly humbled talking about this because I have so much to be grateful for. I seriously have so much in my life. I am richly blessed temporarily and spiritually. I see the many miracles my Father in Heaven has given me and my family.

I want to share my gifts and miracles.

We talked about giving more baked goods to neighbors we haven’t gotten to know. We see them but we haven’t talked to them.

I have been feeling a gentle nudge from the spirit to talk to them.

Tonight while thinking of what ways to serve I thought of finally going over to these neighbors and getting to know them by dropping off a treat.

What is really “enough” service?

I was really excited about it but then I had a sneaky thought of how that might not be “enough” service to give.

I was saddened by that thought.

I reminded myself that it’s not about the gifts all of the time, it’s about how we can share love and the light of Jesus Christ.

I looked back at the times that Dom and I served friends or family.

Service is about the PEOPLE

There was a very moving service project Dom and I did for a member in our ward about three or four years ago.

This member was a single mom, worked really hard at her job, had some health issues, and was struggling to take care of her home.

We offered our help to come over and clean her home.

When we arrived it was more than we expected. I was overwhelmed with the amount of cleaning we had to do.

We spent the entire evening cleaning and reorganizing what she asked us to move around.

It was difficult for her to move around because of her health so we did as she directed the best way we could.

While cleaning we got to know her and her kids. We were able to talk about their interests. It was so great to get to know them.

It was also so very humbling and heartwarming to see how much love there was in the home. The mom had the light of Christ in her. She adored her children and wanted to give them everything. She wanted to raise them the best she could regardless of her health, their living, and giving her best efforts.

This service project became SERVICE for me!

I was renewed with the example of Christ that night.

I knew what we did for them helped them but the way they helped us was so rewarding.

Even though it was hard for me to clean someone else’s home that hasn’t been cleaned in months, I was walking away feeling clean and polished.

I could feel a brightness within me.

That family served me that night with the example of being a Christ-like mother and allowing us to come into their home and open up to us with their struggles but still see the blessings they had. It was so powerful and I gave extra kudos to the courageous and Christ-like mother. She was an amazing example to me.

I was reminded again we are all brothers and sisters. We are all needing comfort and compassion towards one another.

We can do that by serving temporarily or spiritually. We can serve through loving others. We can extend a hand of friendship.

Service is always worth it

Whatever service you can provide, even in the most simple way by sending a message or giving a thank you note, it’s totally worth it.

I am grateful for that wonderful opportunity I had a few years ago to serve a family that needed it. I needed it.

It wasn’t only to serve by cleaning, it was to extend our friendship and love for them.

That is what I want to do this season for my neighbors as well. I want to extend my friendship by getting to know people that are probably so amazing. I have been missing out.

We are all brothers and sisters trying our hardest to live our best.

Let’s have some compassion and understanding for another.

Let’s give some more of our best selves, more of our time, more of our love.

The Service Jesus Christ gives me

I am grateful each day that I am able to receive so much love, friendship, and time from the Lord by praying and reading my scriptures.

His love, grace, and forgiveness are always there. He serves me daily with His comfort, example, and love. Those are such impactful miracles I receive.

This time of the year helps me remember those blessings and all that I have to be grateful for.

It also reminds me how much more I can give. It’s so much more rewarding.

Please share with me times you have served or someone served you that really impacted your heart and spirit.

I can tell you that I have as testimony that serving others is serving our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

It brightens their hearts as well.
