I have had service on my mind a lot these last few weeks. I love to serve. I love that it is extending friendship and it’s something to uplift my spirit. I love that I’m able to serve often in church callings, my neighbors, friends, and people in need.

This last week it’s been so rewarding seeing my five year old son go with Dom to serve people at church. I love that they also have a strong love for serving others. It’s such a blessing because we know that as children of God, as a family, church members, and community we are all needing help through service, compassion, and support.

I would hope that I’m able to serve through writing about my spiritual and life experiences.

With service, I’ve felt like I need to be reaching out to friends and family more, including the people I encounter for a quick visit at church. I’ve been desiring to share more of my spiritual thoughts to connect with them. A lot of my spiritual thoughts are focused on positive feelings and ways I can love them more. I see this when I’m being genuine and truly care for the needs of the individual.

Dom came home from the temple the other day and said that we should be serving more in the temple. I agreed because we both felt that we can grow more in the temple and it can help with our desires to serve others. As we attend the temple more often we can contribute to serve those around us and those needing our presence from across the veil, in heaven.

We are all, on both sides needing and desiring comfort and love from one another. I had a friend tell me a long time ago that I had great connections with everyone I meet and have a natural talent of creating friendships. I love her so much and thank her often for saying that. I believe that it feels good to love and understand others. I love that I can do that through friendship. That and service are some of the blessings in my life.

I know that Jesus Christ is the best example of friendship and companionship. His companionship is something that I rely on daily. He is the best at understanding the needs of others and does so through infinite service. He serves me daily by comfort and being present in my daily life.

My family is great at serving and friendship in their own, unique way. I see my community and members of my church also serve with love and in their own unique way. We are all able to connect and it creates a sense of belonging for us.

In the talk, “A Place of Belonging,” by Carl B. Cook in April 2019 General Conference he said; “The Savior taught, “Where two or three (or more) are gathered together in my name,… behold, there will I be in the midst of them. “Heavenly Father is preparing the minds and hearts of people all around us. We can follow promptings, extend a hand of fellowship, share truth, invite others to read the Book of Mormon, and love and support them as they come to know our savior.”

I see when I serve or anyone serves we open up to one another. We are connecting. I am able to a gain friends or create a bond. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I see a family, like in the article he talked of a “Band of Brothers.” These brothers became so close in the church through serving and being close friends, that it was such a joy to have each other and do the work of the Lord.

I have the same feeling when I’m doing the work of the Lord. I had a recent experience with a friend where she needed me to comfort her through a difficult time in her life. I wanted to be present for her and love her. For me, I had a closer connection to her. I felt a better bond and we both served one another through listening and understanding with love.

Service comes in many ways. It can come through helping someone move, comforting a friend, extending a hand, sharing a spiritual thought, or bringing cookies, etc.

I feel like it’s been on my mind more because I want to do it more meaningfully and Christ-like. I want it coming through a place of love.

I want my temple visits to be full of love. My visits with friends to be a place of love. I want all my serving to bring joy to others and myself.

We are all needing service. The best service has come from the companionship of Christ. As I’ve come closer to Him and strived to follow him, I find it easier to comfort, love and serve others.

I love how my friend said I have a talent in creating friendships. That’s my favorite way to serve and that is to extend a hand and hopefully an uplifting spirit. “At no time will we be more Christlike than when we are a friend.” -Marlin K. Jensen
