Spread the love

Service, according to the churchofjesuschrist.org says, “Service to others is an important characteristic of a disciple of Jesus Christ. A disciple is willing to bear other people’s burdens and to comfort those who need comfort. Often Heavenly Father will meet the needs of others through you.

There are many ways to serve others. Some of the most important service you can give will be within your own home. You can also serve in your Church assignments, school, and community. You can serve by doing temple and family history work. You can serve by sharing the gospel with others now and as a full-time missionary in the future. Often the most meaningful service is expressed through simple, everyday acts of kindness. Seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost each day to know whom to serve and how to help meet their needs. Follow the example of the Savior as you serve others.”

My Desire To Serve

I woke up this morning feeling an inclination to serve. I knew that it was a prompt from the Holy Ghost. And a great one! I love serving.

Due to the Corona-Virus Pandemic, social distancing has been something most people are practicing.

Service before the pandemic has been something that a lot of people do physically to either help the elderly, help people move, clean someone’s home. Most of the things I can think of are being around other people in close proximity to serve.

With us practicing social distancing, service in my church or in the community has been limited. I say that meaning service is still there and available, but most likely to those who are ok with people being around them.

Personally, I don’t feel like I have served in the capacity that I would like recently. I have been wanting to respect the distance of others if they choose that.

I know there are other ways of serving, like, call or text, dropping off a gift, or donating.

Around the holidays I love to volunteer at my church. I love to help neighbors that are in need. I love to bake or make meals for new or existing families in the community.

My Heart Grow Through Service

I love showing others that someone is aware and thinking of them. I genuinely care and love those that are around me.

I feel my heart growing when I do small acts of service.

Because of this prompting this morning, I said silently in my heart that I would like to help out anyway I can to anyone I can.

I knew Heavenly Father was listening because just shortly after I received an email asking my family if we could clean our church this week. I then received a text from a friend to watch her daughter while she goes to the doctor.

I promptly replied to these contacts and was happy to agree. It warmed my heart.

I know people or even buildings are in need of service all the time. I know that Heavenly Father provides small or even big ways for us to serve.

Service Within My Home

I know that in my home, my greatest service is here with my family.

I feel so strengthened to serve the one’s I love the most. I love serving them with meals, cleaning up after them, stopping what I am doing to be present with them.

Just this evening, as I was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner I was going to ask Ronen to go grab the scriptures for us to read them. It was something so simple for him to do but I felt like I wanted to be the one to go grab them.

He normally goes and grabs them for us after dinner but I wanted to do it today so he could continue enjoying his dessert.

I then felt so much love and joy while getting my children ready for bed.

I honestly was annoyed with the fact that they couldn’t calm down while getting ready for bed but as I could see the smiles and light in their eyes I didn’t want to stop them.

I then felt in my heart what a great service I am a part of to raise my wonderful, beautiful children in a home of love.

I delight in this service.

It shows when my daughter is laying on the floor coloring while I am trying to brush her teeth and she is coloring a heart. I stop what I am trying to get her to do and I ask her what she loves that can go inside the heart. She says, “family.”

This had my heart burst and my eyes water.

I find so much joy in the little ways my children are serving me with their good hearts and the service I give them to help raise children through my joy and teachings of Jesus Christ.

My heart and day was filled with so much gratitude for the opportunity to serve friends, my community, and my family.

I know that as I do, I feel the closeness and example of my Savior, Jesus Christ.

He desires to serve us all with His grace, atonement, and hand reaching towards us.

I’m grateful for His example He set to touch my heart to serve those around me. I feel more love for Him and for my brother’s and sister’s.

Ten Commandments

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

“This is the first and great commandment.

“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39).
