Spread the love

How Can I Gather More Followers of Christ?

While teaching my children about baptism this evening in a quick lesson. I could feel the spirit impress upon my thoughts to slow down and to share for a few minutes the importance of baptism.

I shared with them that when we are baptized, we take upon the name of Christ, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and strive to follow the commandments.

The Baptismal Covenant

“Those who are baptized enter into a covenant with God to take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ, keep His commandments, and serve Him to the end (see Mosiah 18:8–10; Doctrine and Covenants 20:37). Church members renew this covenant each time they partake of the sacrament (see Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79).

Those who keep the covenants they made at baptism are blessed by the Lord for their faithfulness. Some of the blessings include the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, the remission of sins, and the privilege of being spiritually reborn. If they continue faithfully, they are promised eternal life (see 2 Nephi 31:19–20).”

Keeping these covenants helps us come closer to Jesus Christ and look for guidance with the spirit when using our agency.

It was a quick lesson and took a few moments of my day but I knew it was the most important thing I was going to teach and talk about for the day.

When I share the gospel for a few moments a day I know it can plant a seed in their heart of what is true.

Gaining Followers

Each day that I write, do a blog post, record a podcast, I am thinking of each reader or listener. I’m thinking about how I can share my testimony and the truthfulness of the gospel that benefits me so it can benefit others.

Before recording a podcast I prayed to my Heavenly Father how I could share more of my spiritual experiences with the world.

I could feel the spirit comfort me.

I then thought of missionaries when they are out devoted to serving the Lord and come in contact with many many people and only impact a few.

They are giving their lives to the Lord and when they help those few come unto Christ, those that do eventually share their testimony, and the chain goes on sharing more testimonies, more baptisms, more coming unto Christ.

Stay At Home Missionary

I guess I am a stay at home mom missionary. 🙂 I love it!

I like to share the experiences that help grow my connection with the spirit, hoping that will connect with someone looking to feel the spirit impact their lives.

In the talk, “Followers of Christ” by Dallin H Oaks he says,

“In the familiar parable of the lost sheep, Jesus taught that we should go out of our way to seek after any of the flock who have strayed.

In our efforts to rescue and serve, we follow our Savior’s unique example and tender teachings about love: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

When I reflected on being a missionary and seeking the “flock that have strayed” I know that will speak to very few.

Love for ALL Humans

I quickly felt a feeling of love.

I could almost hear the spirit of the Lord whisper to me, “share your testimony with love and they will come unto me.”

That was so comforting after sitting silently and anxious on how to get more people to come unto me to get to the Lord.

I felt very selfish but hoping my intentions were righteous.

My whole goal is to gain followers to have them follow and connect with the Lord in their own way.

As I am reminded by the commandment that I taught my children tonight, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Doing that might bring one or two more to follow but the real impact is for me to intentionally love others for who they are.

Love others despite who they follow.

Love others for who they want to become.

Love others because the Savior does.

Love them because I made a covenant through baptism to do so.

If I can share my love to you by sharing my testimony and spiritual experiences I will do it for love, not for you to follow me.

The person I want to follow is Jesus Christ.

I hope with me as a stay at home missionary, I can express to you that Jesus is the best man that I look to and follow.

Following His example and learning of Him just a few minutes a day will definitely increase your happiness.

I’m happier with Him.

I hope you can check out churchofjesuschrist.org on ways to learn more of Him.

He lights the world and His example of loving others as himself is so applicable.

His love is there and ready for you whenever you are ready. 🙂

My name is Brianna Marshall. I was born in Dayton, Ohio into a Air Force family. We moved to Colorado Springs, CO when I was 5 years old and lived there till I moved off to College to Orem, Utah in 2007. I was raised into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm still actively practicing the same faith today. I graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelors in Communications. I was married to my husband Dom in 2010 in the San Diego Temple. Dom and I have two children, one a boy, named Ronen, and a girl, named Ryen. I have been in and out of teaching physical fitness for over 10 years. I love to run and weight lift most days of the week. I also love to do yoga at night to calm me down before bed. I have always had a love for baked goods. My mom made a great dessert every Sunday and made them upon request growing up. I have always been really well at expressing my thoughts and feelings. I love to express a lot of my spiritual feelings with friends and family. As a young girl, I worked really hard to have a great relationship with my Father in Heaven. I have felt His presence from the time I was 8 and currently still feel his love and desire for me to become closer to Him. I desire to be a missionary as well as help others understand His love for all of His children. I find that being friendly, understanding and being compassionate to everyone is the best example of His son, Jesus Christ. I strive to follow His teachings. I also stumble with all of it. I'm so grateful for the atonement and repentance when I'm in need of change of heart and a compassionate spirit. I find life to be so beautiful and I'm grateful everyday for the experiences I have. I am a wife, mother, daughter of God, writer, runner, baker, and an imperfect being striving to be the best me.
