Spread the love

My favorite scriptures since I was five years old

3 Nephi 12:8-9

8. And blessed are all the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9. And blessed are all the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

Joy As A Child

As I was reflecting on my week of many activities with my family, I could see how child-like Dom, the kids, and I were.

Sometimes, Dom and I act younger than what we are. 😉 It’s fun that way. Haha

While reflecting on the fun activities and memories we made while playing and interacting with our children, I couldn’t help but feel so much joy.

I could feel joy that pierced my heart. It was love that was light, but so fulfilling.

What I picture when I think of the words light and fulfilling is, a child feeling joy and love

I started to think about the heaviness that can come with being an adult. Don’t get me wrong, being an adult, growing and gaining more wisdom is so rewarding…but as a child there is innocence and brightness that I try to obtain as an adult.

Adult Distractions

I thought of how as an adult, there are lots of worldly concerns and sins that can affect much of our brains and times in our lives.

Sin: like, pornography, immorality, drug addiction, consumption of alcohol, abuse, wickedness, deceit, and any other sin that can distance us from that great spirit within us to bring us closer to our Savior.

I look at my children and other children and how their main focus is to learn, have fun, and LOVE. They desire peace and comfort in their home. They desire to love and be loved. It’s very refreshing to see their nature appear that way to me.

While these thoughts were crossing my mind I thought of how much MORE I want to strive to have the wisdom of righteousness, but the heart of a growing child.

Become Like A Peacemaker

Children are peacemakers and they have the purest of hearts that sincerely desire to do good. If they do make a mistake they desire to do better.

It’s a trait that I love and am continually cultivating.

I know that from spiritual experiences that as I try to grow and love like a child I feel closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ has asked us to follow in his footsteps and light. As we follow in His ways our hearts and lives become brighter and less heavy with all the sin and worldly consumption.

Treasures Of The Heart

I treasure the many experiences I have with my family that brings me closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Another experience that I felt so happy and have treasured in my mind is when my family and I recently went to a park to play.

We were all swinging on the swings laughing so hard because Dom was making animal noises. We also pretended like we could touch the sky. We played hard for an hour and it became such a treasure in my heart.

Dom and I felt like we were hanging out with our kids as friends. We soaked up their laughter and energy and it became the brightest part of our day.

Afterwards we then spoke about how these “treasures” or experiences we have together and how they are what we bring with us to Heaven. The treasures in our lives are what is in our heart.

As a family we shared together our treasures in our hearts: Heavenly Father and His presence, our Savior, Jesus Christ and His perfect love, and the Holy Ghost as our constant comfort.

As we are looking for guidance and teachings from these three we experience so many wonderful moments, like Becoming As A Child.

These moments are a treasure to me.

Becoming As A Child as a daughter of God, to me is becoming more like Jesus Christ. I can learn from His wisdom and love as He loves, be a peacemaker as He is, and strive to have a light and pure heart.

It’s so rewarding to me to continue learning and growing but remember that as a child life is so much more exciting when we live with excitement, joy, and loving others with all of our hearts.

3 Nephi 12:45

45. That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good.
